First off is Vic Reeves, who has always been just a little eccentric; if he isn’t singing the Shaun the Sheep theme song, he’s promoting some odd ball idea that he and his wife have concocted, or he’s rather tipsy on live television. It makes sense, then, that Vic was picked as the new face of 888Ladies, 888’s latest online bingo venture. The campaign features Vic getting ready for a night of 888Ladies bingo, carefully ensuring no one else is in the house before sneakily dressing up in drag. As adverts go, it’s quite surreal, but Vic Reeves has now become a staple ‘bingo boy’.

Pop stars and footie hunks

Now we move on to more, shall we say, gorgeous bingo boys, this time in the form of pop star extraordinaire Robbie Williams. Never one to turn down a kind act for ‘charidee’, Robbie recently entered a Hollywood bingo competition and ended up winning a leopard skin handbag, as well as donating important funds for breast cancer research. What a luvvie!

On to the world of football now…bear with us girls, as we didn’t know who this fella was until a male member of the office explained, but David Wheater, a defender for Middlesbrough football team, apparently enjoys a spot of bingo with his girlfriend in his hometown of Redcar, North Yorkshire. Wheater has joined the England squad, so let’s hope he can have a word with David Beckham and get him down to our local bingo halls to show us his golden balls!

The fairer sex

As we all know, bingo is usually associated with the fairer sex, so let’s leave the boys behind for a moment and move on to those bingo loving female celebs, starting with Sharon Osbourne. Sharon is the face of Gala Bingo, whose adverts feature her busy playing bingo and ignoring her show-biz lifestyle. We can see why though; with the offers on at online bingo sites these days, she’d probably make more off a full house than from X Factor. Still, at least Cheryl Cole now knows how she can fill her time between shoots, as she’ll apparently be taking on X Factor after Sharon’s shock departure.

We wouldn’t have guessed it, but even royalty have graced bingo halls nationwide, no doubt exclaiming “one does love to say House!” Recently, Prince William was spotted taking a break from the gruelling body punishment centre that is Sandhurst by playing a relaxing game of bingo! The Prince bought £5 worth of tickets and proceeded to settle down for a thrilling game. Sadly, the Prince didn’t win anything, but any prizes he could have grabbed probably wouldn’t have competed with the crown jewels. If this wasn’t enough, the Queen is also another royal who just loves a good game of bingo! While we do know the Queen enjoys a quick crack at this great game, the details of her playing habits are shrouded in mystery. Perhaps her, Camilla and the Prince of Wales all gather around for some eyes down fun…or maybe not!

There’s another big player in world politics who also has some bingo secrets hidden up his sleeve. The presidential candidate Barack Obama has a step-mother based in Bracknell who just loves bingo. Kezia Obama, aged 67, hopes to see her stepson enter the White House, but not if it clashes with her bingo games! Barack Obama has become a figure of fun in the bingo world recently, with Obama speech-themed bingo cards appearing online. Bingo players have to circle one of Obama’s key words whenever he says them during a speech; a full house earns you Obamaspeak/House!

A beautiful mind

We were as shocked at this one as you are, in fact, this one shocked us much more than the Queen and Prince William put together; there is no way Russell Crowe would be into bingo, surely? Well, think again, as the Aussie bar brawler used to be a bingo caller, until he was sacked for saying phrases such as “number 1, up your bum” - now that sounds more like the Crowe we know and love! Apparently, Russell still has a soft spot for bingo and often checks out the local bingo halls whenever he’s somewhere new. He was recently shooting the new Robin Hood film, titled Nottingham, so perhaps he even visited Nottingham’s Gala Bingo hall while he was there!

Yet another Royle...

Ending on a light note, Ricky Tomlinson, the British comedian best known for his portrayal of Jim Royle in the TV comedy-drama The Royle Family, recently released an interactive bingo DVD game which saw him take the role as bingo caller. The added twist is that Ricky performs an incredible 5 different characters and each one has their own “style” of bingo calling. Clearly, bingo is for anyone and everyone!
